INTRODUCTION
The ARI ECDIS is a PC based electronic chart display and information
system that incorporates all key features related to navigational
safety of vessels and overall onboard efficiency.
The ARI ECDIS seamlessly integrates charting, positioning, and text
information into a powerful operational tool that minimizes the
number and scope of navigational errors. It offers a comprehensive
range of standard features supporting voyage planning, route monitoring
and use of multiple electronic chart formats. An extremely user
friendly interface and menu structure avoids ambiguity, reduces
operation time and allows the navigator to focus on the task at
hand. It integrates and checks data from NMEA 0183/IEC 61162 compatible
GPS, gyro, speedlog, depth sounder and ARPA. Additionally provision
can be provided to integrate data from other NMEA 0183 compatible
inputs including AIS sensors, DGPS, Radar and GLONASS. Provision
can also be made to transmit ECDIS data to NMEA compatible VDRs.

| Easy
to install and extremely user friendly, the ARI ECDIS has been
developed with input from over hundred master mariners. The
result is an ergonomic design with intutive and easy to use
interfaces. Convenient, single action keys provide instant access
to all navigation tools and features. |

-
Automatic and continuous display of position fully synchronized
with the geographical surroundings. This is particularly useful
when short update times are required e.g. when navigating in harbor
approaches, canals, in port limits or when approaching crowded
anchorages.
-
Automatic or Semi-automatic chart correction system which reduces
labor and eliminates the uncertainties of possible human error.
-
Overlay of ARPA information on the 'navigational chart' integrates
the collision avoidance functions with the position information
function of the
ECDIS
-
Overlaying of AIS information on ECDIS can further improve the
decision making ability in close quarter situations.
-
Berth to berth passage plans are produced quickly and easily.
With the innovative 'point and click' procedure used, waypoints,
legs and routes can be rapidly and efficiently created by the
navigating officer. All routes can be easily edited, deleted or
recreated as required
-
Routes can be easily transferred between GPS and ARPA/Radar
to avoid duplication of work and ensure consistency across all
navigational systems.
-
Supplementary information and instructions can be easily created,
stored and retrieved.
-
Available worldwide can be sent to the vessel by electronic
means
-
ECDIS assists in compliance with MGN 72 and ISM requirements
by making it easy to store berth to berth passage plans for all
regular routes
